A pharmacy is an important part of a patient’s medical team, which means that it contributes to the patient experience just as much as the medical doctor’s office they go to or the aftercare they receive. There are many ways a medical doctor’s office can improve the patient experience, from creating a helpful online presence to displaying an excellent bedside manner, but a pharmacy can do just as much to be an effective partner in the healthcare team surrounding a patient.

Patient satisfaction is becoming more important with time

It takes a long time and a lot of work and effort to turn a one-time patient into a returning patient. High-quality and efficient service is as important for a pharmacist as it is for a medical doctor’s office. All doctors wish to achieve high patient retention, meaning that the patients they get are patients they keep.

Pharmacists also wish to achieve the same end, and patient satisfaction is an inescapable link in the chain of causality that leads to a patient’s decision regarding which provider to choose.

The patient experience does not end with the office visit

Technology and communication are tools to use

Health tech can be used as an education tool, for example, in populations that experience limitations of health and sex education. These education tools can manifest as anything from wearable tech, to e-learning apps and AI-powered solutions.

At the end of the day, a pharmacy is responsible for many aspects of patient care that fall outside of a medical doctor’s strict purview, from medication adherence to education. Keeping in mind the above points helps pharmacy integrate seamlessly into the medical care team surrounding a patient and helps to improve patient outcomes.
